Psalm 1 and Luke 3:21-22

Today we commence a series about living a spiritual life. In a Christian understanding spirituality is an embodied reality, developed in the experiences of everyday life. We have three ‘guides’ for this series: Charlie Brown – who often finds life to be challenging, but whose character is formed and shaped by his everyday experiences. Our second guide is Henri Nouwen, one of the great writers on spirituality. In his book ‘Life of the Beloved’, Nouwen writes about four movements of the Spirit that enable us to understand ourselves as ‘beloved’ by the Spirit we are chosen, blessed, broken and given; and we’ll consider each of these movements in the coming weeks. Our third guide is the Book of Psalms, the songs of the women and men of God that point us towards an embodied, everyday spirituality.
