The Hymn to Christ

Colossians 1:15-20

This week we continue our series looking at Paul’s letter to the church at Colossae. Here Paul focuses on the supremacy and uniqueness of Christ and his place in creation. Today we’ll consider the soaring images of Colossians 1:15-20. It’s likely these verses were a hymn known to the Christian communities around the Roman Empire. Paul includes it in his letter to remind the church that it is Christ who reveals what God is like; Christ is the image of God. The hymn draws the people around Christ as the focus and purpose of their community life.
