SONGWe Welcome the Stranger  Click here
(thanks to Southwest Baptist Church, Christchurch)

We come here before You, the Author of Life
Our hands reaching for You in awe of most high
Lord we long to hear from You
To be shaped by Your heart

We’re singing thank You

Bringing hope to the scarred

Saviour, holy and just
Oh, to love like You do

We welcome the stranger

We welcome You

Call to Worship

We come to you, O God, to thank you for what is good.
We come to you, O God, to cry out for what is wrong.
We come to you, O God, to ask for help and restoration.
We come to you, O God, with aching hearts and glad souls.
Let us worship God.

We gather as God’s beloved children –
However glad we are, however out of sorts we are.
We come together as a people whom Jesus calls into community –
So, this becomes a place where all are welcome.
We have come to give thanks, to pray and sing, to be with one another –
Let us worship God.

SONG: When I needed a neighbour (by Sydney Carter) Click here

When I needed a neighbour
you there, were you there?
When I
needed a neighbour
you there?
the creed and the colour
the name won’t matter
you there?

Prayer for our Ethnic Communities
(by Lindsay Jones, Multicultural Ministries, Baptist Union of New Zealand)

Ko te mihi tuatahi ki te Atua                   The first greeting is to the creator
Nāna nei ngā mea katoa I hanga            From him all things were made
Heavenly father, we pray today for those who have made Aotearoa their home in recent years… people from every tribe, nation and language.
For those who have left behind elderly parents and wonder if they will ever see them again.
For those facing prejudice because of their country of origin and uncertain employment.
For those from backgrounds where technology is unfamiliar and unaffordable.
For those who rely on their children for English language skills
For these family-based cultures, for whom separation is so unfamiliar
May your grace and protection be upon them all in this difficult time.
God of nations, hear our prayer.

SONG – Hymn of St Patrick (St Patrick’s breastplate) Click here

Christ be with me and within me,
Christ behind me and before

Christ beside me and to win me,

Christ to comfort and restore

Christ beneath me and above me,

Christ in quiet and in danger,

Christ in hearts of all that love me,

Christ in mouth of friend and stranger.

Central Blessing

You are God’s people, gifted with dreams and visions.
Upon you rests the grace of God like flames of fire.
Love and serve the Lord in the strength of the Spirit.
May the deep peace of Christ be with you,
the strong arms of God sustain you,
and the power of the Holy Spirit strengthen you in every way
