Call  to worship

Psalm 100

1 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Worship the LORD with gladness;
come before him with joyful songs.
3 Know that the LORD is God.
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving
and his courts with praise;
give thanks to him and praise his name.
5 For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;
his faithfulness continues through all generations.

Prayer for the World (prepared by Adrienne)

Dear God

Most of us are still reeling from the rapidity with which our land and our world have changed.

Many of us are still feeling shock. Many of us are hyped up with the adrenalin of all that we have had to plan and action. Some of us are more than ever responsible to care for others. Some of us are struggling with feeling useless, dependent, powerless.

So now, let us pause to remember who you are and rest in that.

God, Jesus showed us that you are the loving, merciful Creator, wanting to give us your good gifts. And Jesus told us to ask and keep on asking you for what we most need and desire.

So now we ask you that as we’ve been shown the frightening spectacle of ‘what could happen’, we may keep on noticing the kindness and courage that has been shown in response.

We pray for all of us who have had to drastically rearrange our lives. Some of us are alone at home and lonely. Some of us are shut in at home with bored children or fractious flatmates. Please give us courage, humour and trust as we begin to weave the shape of our new normality.

We pray for all of those who have to make decisions and show leadership. Our prime minister and government. The various ministries of Oranga Tamariki, Social Development, Education, Business, Health, and Foreign Affairs.

We pray for medical practices, pharmacists, and all staff at the various hospitals. Keep them safe as they confront this illness. For the psychologists and counsellors. For schools and teachers. For the Supermarket workers who have been bearing the lashes of people’s fear and anger.

And as you taught us to Jesus, we pray for our own daily bread. – For what we each need to live the lives you’ve given us to live.

We pause to pray for our own particular needs.

Loving God, in whom is heaven
holy is your Name,
your new day come, your will be done
on earth as in heaven.

With the bread we need for today,
feed us.

In the hurts we absorb from one another,
forgive us.

In times of temptation and test,
strengthen us.

From trials too great to endure,
spare us.

From the grip of all that is evil,
free us.

For you reign in the glory
of the power that is love,
now and forever, Amen.

Please continue to give as you are able.

We have lost all of our rental income due to the lockdown, so we really appreciate your generosity.

This week’s Message: Good news to sustain us – Romans 1:1-17

Writing to believers living in the heart of the Roman Empire, the apostle Paul considers how he may strengthen and encourage them. His message may help to guide and sustain us as we cope with life in the time of Covid19.

This week’s message comes from Chris Finlay, the interim Regional Leader for the Wellington Baptists.

The message is available here as an audio or video.
